Flick was feeling happy.

And tipsy.

Weightless. Like she could fly. Oh, that would be fun.

“Wouldn’t it be fun if you could fly?” she said to Mia.

Mia eyed her. “You’re not going to try, are you?”

Hmm. She thought about that. “I always wanted the power of invisibility until I met West, then I thought it would be great to be able to have laser eyes that could incinerate someone, you know, because he was such an ass when I first met him. But now, yeah, flying could be fun.”

“Yes, but actual flying requires wings. You don’t have those.”

Flick pouted. “Darn it. Maybe I should ask Santa for a pair this year. Maybe I should get West to dress up as Santa this year to hand out gifts on Christmas Day. He’d make a great Santa.”

Everyone grew silent and stared at her.

“West?” Molly asked quietly. “As Santa?”

They were all at Molly’s house for a girls’ night. Mia had requested one since she was feeling a bit cooped up. Alec was feeling extremely protective now that she was getting close to her due date and she was becoming smothered in well-meaning testosterone.

Flick had been undecided about whether she should come tonight as she had so much wedding stuff to decide on. She’d been sick for the last five days with strep throat and she’d gotten next to nothing done. But she was glad she had. It was fun. She realized now that she’d been way too stressed out over the wedding.

Laken’s cocktails and good company were just what the doctor ordered.

Of course, the doctor probably would have frowned on her drinking with no food in her tummy. Especially when she was still on antibiotics. She’d just been so busy all night, she’d forgotten to eat. Molly had snacks set out and had ordered a pizza, but by then, Flick had been well into her second cocktail.

She wasn’t much of a drinker. Not after living with her brother, Spencer. He’d turned to alcohol after his accident. He’d changed. Become violent and angry.

“Grouchy West?” Aspen said doubtfully.

“The West who never smiles?” Savannah added.

“Who growls whenever anyone says hello to him,” Mia added with a grin.

“Yeah. Him. Hmm, I’m beginning to see your point.”

Everyone laughed and she grinned.

As everyone was studying Molly’s terrible attempt at a Christmas sweater for Jake, Mia’s phone went off.

“Alec?” Molly asked.

Mia read the text message. “Yep.”

“How many times does that make now?” Flick asked. “Ten?”

“More like twelve,” Laken said with a grin.

“Not like you all haven’t had plenty of texts from your men checking in with you,” Mia replied pointedly.

West had texted her several times to make sure that she was still at Molly’s house and to remind her to call him when she was ready to come home. He hadn’t wanted her to go out tonight. He’d been coddling her ever since she’d woken up with a throat that felt like it was filled with razorblades. But she’d managed to convince him she was feeling fine. She’d also had to agree to an early night.
